DanceSteps

Introducing DanceSteps our Student Teacher Education Program! DanceSteps is a 6 level Student Teacher Education Program for students over the age of 11 years. 

At Jazz Attack we are excited to be a registered affiliate studio and member of the DanceSteps program. Offered in partnership with our studio teachers, DanceSteps empowers our students to take care of others and guides them to be leaders and role models at the studio and in the wider community. 

The program covers assistant teaching skills such as behavioral management, different learning needs and styles, safe teaching principles and anatomy to name just a few. These concepts are broken down to be taught in a sequential and age appropriate way. Whether students are considering a career in teaching or otherwise, the DanceSteps program is a great preparation for entering the work force in any role and for many other aspects of life. 

With the inclusion of the DanceSteps, our students have a framework where they can contribute to the community in a positive way. We hope students will find confidence and learn patience, empathy, communication skills and how to to take initiative in different situations. 

As affiliate members of the DanceSteps program, it is wonderful for us to be able to provide this opportunity for our students to flourish not only as young people, but to also watch them grow into competent and confident assistant teachers and student leaders. 

Student Teachers will learn:

  • Behaviour management skills
  • How to break down exercises for teaching
  • The importance of warm up and cool down
  • Anatomy
  • Body Language
  • Managing class time
  • Teaching safety, and much more.

Student Teachers will be required:

  • To be at least 11 years of age
  • To assist in one dance class per week
  • to work through the components in the workbook
  • to attend training sessions held once a term
  • to uphold the values of Jazz Attack and positively promote themselves and the studio at all times. 
  • To arrive to your scheduled class 10 minutes before commencement prepared with your workbook.
  • To wear DanceSteps shirt for the class you are assisting with and  wear correct footwear for your class.

Student Teachers will receive:

  • Access to DanceSteps online learning portal
  • DanceSteps workbook for each level
  • Training sessions with qualified teachers
  • Certificate on completion of each level

Notes:

  • All student Teachers must start at Level One - older students are likely to progress quicker through the  material. 
  • We do not guarantee paid dance teaching work at the completion of this program. 
  • All student teachers must be enrolled members at Jazz Attack, attending classes in the style they assist.

Applications only taken once a year. Applications close 28th February 2023.
